Why Some People are Happy Making Others Unhappy

and

What the Solution to this Puzzle Reveals

about

the Key to Our Own Happiness :

The Journey of the Question

and

the Science Behind the Answer

Join Wendy Treynor, a University of Michigan-trained scientist of human thought, behavior, and emotion (2004),  who will present findings from ground-breaking research from the field of Social Psychology to the general public—findings which lead to some surprising conclusions.  Although scientifically informed, this lighthearted and engaging presentation serves to inspire, empower, and educate and is sure to excite any palate.

Wendy will share her perspective about why some people are happy making others unhappy--an insight which comes from Socialization Theory, a tapestry of scientific findings that Wendy has woven together to elucidate the relationship between identity, emotion, self-esteem, depression, culture, identity, and conflict. The work offers insight into the workings of unfriendly groups-how it is that otherwise friendly people can become unfriendly themselves, and what you can do about it. This systematic framework also offers insight into what the root of unhappiness--and route to happiness--is.

Wendy writes:

"Professionally, I am a University of Michigan trained scientist of human  thought, emotion, and behavior, and personally, I am 33-year old cancer survivor....

My understanding of the root of unhappiness (suffering) and the road to happiness (peace) is informed by the research of Phoebe C. Ellsworth, Craig Smith, Barbara Fredrickson, Susan Nolen-Hoeksema, Norbert Schwarz, Solomon Asch, Leon Festinger, and many others, and also, finally, by my life experience, because I have now put this knowledge into practice and reaped the benefits!

My understanding is also informed by “Socialization Theory,” a tapestry I've woven of findings from other people's (and my own)  research. It is an approach comprised of empirically supported statements, with logical implications that appear to be true (if logic is true and science is true), but which remain to be tested.

It is my belief, my conviction, my hope that the understanding I share will enable anyone armed with this knowledge, who has the courage to apply it, to transcend unhappiness and discover genuine happiness, as I have.  I live by my own understanding, and I'm happier than I've ever been.

I share this knowledge with you, out of my desire to spread the wealth, the joy, the delight I have happened upon----a treasure uncovered and to be shared."
